What, you want all your friends and relatives to bid against each other, so the winning bidder spends as much on you as possible??? :-)
jaqi said
LOL I hadn’t thought of that, that’s hilarious. I suggest you negotiate amongst yourselves (herebelow for all I care) which one of you should do the bidding against the rest of the Modesty Blaise-collecting world. Makes sense to me it should be Dad, if only to stop him bidding against whoever’s getting it for me.
Clare said
If Dad bids for it and wins it, it might never get to you… except as a loan, that is.
jaqi said
Ai, a loan is fine – I mainly just want to read it. Besides, it’ll come to me eventually. As is the way of these things.

If it is simply the reading of this particular story you desire then I can get you a paperback edition from Dymocks. If you ache for the coffee table hardback version then a brand new print is available for not much more then the final ebay bid. I would however, personally choose one of Peter O’Donnells’ earlier Modesty Blaise novels, actually in my case one of the illustrated comic strip versions, you know the ones with pictures (after all she is one hot babe)! In any case let me know if you did not win the bidding and I could purchase one of the books as a gift.

Thank you Stuart, but the nicest gift you could give me would be youtube.com/zensiren. I am, of course, presuming that the idle page at that address was taken by you at the relevant time, possibly to give to me, though it never happened. Perhaps, for old times’ sake, you could email me the password.

As I no longer have your email address this is the only place I can write to you. Would you please consider making private or removing this post. My email address is unchanged. Much has happened since we last talked and a conversation to clear the air would likely be of benefit to both of us.

Jaqi,
Interesting. No not me. I didn’t even know it was there. My first thought would be Michelle (aka Bovagirl). Check with her.
You may want to (or I can if you desire) contact YouTube and ask for the name to be released to you. Read the following keeping in mind that we (me you whatever) are the Trademark owners …
>>
Username Squatting
In general, users are expected to be active members within the YouTube community. If an account is found to be overly inactive, the account may be reclaimed by YouTube without notice and made available for registration by another party. Inactivity may be considered as …
Not logging into the site for at least six months.
Never having uploaded video content.
Not actively partaking in watching or commenting on videos or channels.
In cases of username squatting, YouTube may release usernames typically in cases of a valid trademark or impersonation complaint.
Trademark
Using someone else’s trademark in a username, in and of itself, is not necessarily infringing. However, if there is content on your user page that would confuse viewers into believing that the trademark owner created or sponsors your page or content, then the trademark owner’s rights are likely being infringed and we will need to reclaim your username. So it’s important to be sensitive to other people’s trademark rights when choosing a username.
If you are a trademark owner and you believe your trademark is being infringed due to a username issue, please note that YouTube is not in a position to mediate trademark disputes between users and trademark owners. As a result, we strongly encourage trademark owners to resolve their disputes directly with the owner of the username. Trademark owners can contact the user through YouTube’s private messaging feature.
YouTube takes allegations of trademark infringement very seriously so if you are unable to reach a resolution with the account holder in question, please submit a trademark claim through our Legal Issues contact form.

Well then, Stuart, why don’t you text Jac and suggest it? This “poor me; I can’t contact you” is unworthy of the intelligent person I met! Jac’s landline, mobile and home address haven’t changed, so her blog is not the only way for you to contact her – nor is it the most appropriate way for contact like this. Jac is an upfront person; she’ll respect you far more if you are upfront with her, rather than expecting her to make it easy for you.

Clare,
My intial intention was to point out that this particlar book is
readily available should the eBay bid not be successful. I went further and offered it as a gift. Jaqi then asked about a namespace that interests her on YouTube so I provided information to assist her.
Furthermore, I believed that given substantial positive
changes in my circumstances it may have benefited Jaqi to “have a chat”. Yes, I guess her home phone number in the whitepages but I do not have any further contact details and like knocking on her door seems more than a little bold considering what we both went through.
I have no desire to work for respect from anyone nor do I have any particular expectations of Jaqi; if it does not happen naturally then that is just a sad part of this unfair life.
I simply thought I may be able to help someone of whom I have mostly fond memories. If a shrill reaction is what I get from a defender then I will not bother Jaqi again and will avoid viewing or participation here any further, such that I do not offend any of you.

“Shrill reaction”, huh? Ah well, we can’t expect tone to carry through the ether waves, can we? :-)
I still say it sounds like a cop-out:
“Furthermore, I believed that given substantial positive
changes in my circumstances it may have benefited Jaqi to “have a chat”.”
If you have a belief that you can benefit Jaqi by having a chat, I don’t understand why you don’t make the effort to contact her more directly. “I think I can benefit you, so you get in touch with me” is rather like a pressure marketer, don’t you think? :-)
“Yes, I guess her home phone number is in the whitepages but I do not have any further contact details and knocking on her door seems more than a little bold considering what we both went through.”
Heard of snailmail?? Or the texting I suggested in my previous post? Or calling her mobile? I realise that some people obliterate details of someone after they have a falling out, but if that’s the case for you, then I think it would be outrageous to suggest that she contacts you because you no longer have her phone numbers. If you haven’t obliterated her details, then obviously you have more options than simply looking in the white pages, any of which would be more private than your post here (if privacy was really what you were after).
“I have no desire to work for respect from anyone nor do I have any particular expectations of Jaqi”
I wasn’t suggesting you should work for respect; I was implying that your approach was likely to diminish what respect she might have for you.
As for:
“If … then I … will avoid viewing or participation here any further, such that I do not offend any of you.”
I’d call that a nice subtle piece of emotional blackmail and/or guilt-tripping. I took exception to (which is different to being offended by) your request via a public forum that Jaqi make contact with you, and the implausible reason you gave for that, combined with your request for her to consider making your post private or removing it altogether. If you wanted a private approach, then don’t use a public blog, and don’t try to justify doing so by saying you don’t have any other option, because that is patently not true.

@Claire
Not emotional blackmail unless you care if I comment in this so called public forum or not. The rest of our interaction is moot. I have chosen yet again to view these comments, perhaps for want of better judgement but with one intent in mind, to help if I can. Claire, I have NO contact details other than Jaqi’s home address but of course, you are quite correct, I can snailmail a Modesty Blaise book to Jaqi. I missed giving a deserved birthday gift last year. I did not expect strong resistance in re-establishing some contact again with Jaqi and hoped my temporary pollution of the blog would not bring hard feelings. As it happens I do know someone with Jaqi’s (damned apostrophe is it correct?) home telephone number but I’m not sure if I’m brave enough to call. Then again – whats’ to lose! (blasted apostrophe again). Finally for now – Claire, I very much hope that one day we meet again, I love reasonable robust discussions and just like your sister you are memorably mesmerising.
PS: I now realise that Jaqi gets my email address when I post! So, the balls in her court really. DO’H!
@Jaqi
I have initiated the recovery of the namespace youtube.com/zensiren because it should be available for you and I(we) own the trademark. My initial interaction when dealing with youtube is less than positive but we will prevail. As Claire has pointed out my clarity of mindset is less than acute at this time but given that I have repelled considerable psycho-terrorism, I am doing what I can to heal any wounds inflicted on us. I’ve ordered the book expect 3-4 weeks delivery.

Yikes – I’m away from my blog for a few weeks and when I come back folks are brawling. Would you both mind backing off a bit? Clare, thanks for your defense, sorry I didn’t pay more attention to your mentions by phone – I was kinda preoccupied with my life. Stuart – sorry I’ve been so slow to read and respond. Thank you for dealing with YouTube – how strange that youtube.com/zensiren (apparently a 27-year-old South African) signed up around the time we parted but has never uploaded any content. It would be nice to regain control of that option, wouldn’t it?
As Clare pointed out, my phone number is in the white pages, but I’m sure you’d prefer to email me at jaqipascoe [at] gmail.com. Once I hear from you I will delete the above comments since it’s all rather, shall we say, unedifying…
